en.malanginspirasi.com – The Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) Malang Raya has officially taken legal action against celebrity lawyer Hotman Paris Hutapea over alleged verbal insults directed at journalists as the organization deems a threat to the dignity of the profession.
The Chairman of PWI Malang Raya, Ir. Cahyono, filed a formal complaint at the Malang Kota Police Station on Tuesday (21/7/2026).
The report has been officially registered under the number STTPM/1.411/VII/2026/SPKT POLRESTA MALANG KOTA.
The incident stems from a broadcast video circulating on YouTube showing Hotman Paris delivering a press statement at the Attorney General’s Office of Indonesia in Jakarta.

During the session, when a reporter posed a question regarding an ongoing case, Hotman reportedly responded with a condescending remark: “Lu punya otak enggak?” (“Do you even have a brain?”).
Speaking to the press after filing the report, Cahyono emphasized that the statement was a direct blow to the entire journalism community operating under the law.
“On behalf of the Indonesian Journalists Association, I am reporting the high-profile advocate Hotman Paris Hutapea, who has committed an insult against media workers. Today, I filed this official report with the Malang Kota Police,” said Cahyono.
“The insult uttered by Hotman Paris degraded press workers with the phrase ‘Do you even have a brain?’. That is a clear insult directed at journalists. I explicitly stated that such insults automatically harm all working journalists,” he continued
Following Regional and National Directives
Cahyono revealed that during the filing process, investigators from the Malang Kota Police Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) submitted 15 questions to gather preliminary statements regarding the incident.
He also clarified that the action taken by the local Malang chapter is part of a coordinated effort aligning with directives from higher organizational bodies.
“This report by PWI Malang Raya, representing the regional chapter for Malang City and Regency, is a direct follow-up to the instructions and reports made by the Central PWI and East Java PWI,” Cahyono explained.
“We submitted to a police questioning session today and answered 15 questions from the investigators. Now, we await the results of the legal process being conducted by the Malang Kota Police Satreskrim team,” he concluded
The Malang Kota Police are currently handling the case, which remains under preliminary investigation (penyelidikan).
