en.malanginspirasi.com – Spain has deployed armed forces to bolster security in its North African enclave of Ceuta following a massive border breach that left at least 18 migrants dead.
Over Thursday and Friday, thousands of migrants swam around sea jetties and breached border gates from Morocco into Ceuta and neighboring Melilla, leading local officials to declare border controls in total collapse.
The influx comes shortly after a Supreme Court ruling barred Spain from summarily returning migrants intercepted at sea to Morocco—a decision Madrid’s interior ministry claims human traffickers exploited to encourage crossings.
The interior ministry of Spain accused human trafficking networks of exploiting that to embolden the undocumented migrants flow.
“The armed forces will reinforce the Civil Guard in the exercise of its powers and any others that may be necessary to maintain security in the city of Ceuta,” the ministry said as quoted from BBC.

In response, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez pledged to restore order immediately as military forces move to support local law enforcement.
The crisis has also ignited a European political rift. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni cited the chaotic scenes as evidence that uncontrolled illegal immigration threatens European security, suggesting a suspension of the open-border Schengen agreement with Spain.
Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares fired back, calling the comments partisan demagoguery and summoning Italy’s ambassador.
Meanwhile, Spanish authorities report they are coordinating with Moroccan officials to arrange the prompt return of those who crossed illegally.
