EN.malanginspirasi.com – The University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) officially opened the 7th International Conference on Law Reform (INCLAR) on July 22, 2026, bringing together international diplomats and legal scholars to discuss the urgent need for legal reform in the face of escalating environmental challenges.
Held at a UMM-owned hotel in Malang, the conference adopted the timely theme: “Reordering Law for Ecological Justice and Sustainable Development in the Age of Global Environmental Crisis.”
The event was formally opened by the Rector of UMM, Prof. Dr. Nazaruddin Malik, who extended a warm welcome to the distinguished international delegation.
Among the honored guests were the Ambassador of Kenya to Indonesia, H.E. Abdul Rasyid Salad Abdil; the Ambassador of Portugal, H.E. Gabriela Suarez; and the Ambassador of New Zealand, H.E. Philip Nathan Aula.
In his opening address, Prof. Malik expressed the university’s pride in hosting the prestigious conference.
“Your presence reflects our shared commitment to advancing legal scholarship and strengthening international cooperation through meaningful dialogue and academic exchange,” he stated.
The conference also featured a keynote address from a leading figure in Indonesian legal academia, Prof. Dr. Hikmahanto Juwana, S.H., LL.M., Ph.D., from the Faculty of Law at the University of Indonesia. International perspectives were provided by distinguished speakers, including Prof. Dr. Jeongchun Kwok, Ph.D., from Zainal Abidin University.
The Rector emphasized the critical relevance of the conference theme, noting that the world is currently facing unprecedented environmental pressures.
“Climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution, natural disasters, and increasing pressure on natural resources continue to challenge our society. These issues remind us that environmental protection requires a robust and adaptive legal framework,” Prof. Malik remarked.
The 7th INCLAR serves as a platform for scholars, policymakers, and legal practitioners to exchange ideas and propose solutions for reordering laws to ensure ecological justice and sustainable development, reinforcing UMM’s role as a hub for international academic collaboration.
