en.malanginspirasi.com – Scott Imig, a professor and education expert from the University of Newcastle, Australia, made a historic visit to History Department of Malang State University (UM).
Imag explained during a discussion held in the Museology Laboratory that his father was involved in a past UM development project through USAID.
This echoes what Aditya N. Widiadi, Ph.D., told the media after the discussion.
“Scott Imig apparently has a personal history with UM, as his parents used to work for USAID and lived in Malang for a long time. They were also involved (in development projects) at UM during the tenures of Mr. Ihsan, Mr. Syamsul Arifin, and so on. Scott Imig is trying to trace this old network, with the aim of strengthening future connections (between the two institutions),” explained the Coordinator of the UM History Master’s and Doctoral Programs.

Also presenting at the event was Deputy Dean 3 of the Faculty of Social Sciences, State University of Malang, Abdul Kodir, Ph.D.
He mentioned the possibility of a collaboration on historical reconstruction and content development for the State University of Malang Museum, based on information provided by Imig about his father’s past.
This is certainly related to efforts to complete the narrative of the history of State University of Malang and its development over time.
“The activity was an attempt to rewrite or reconstruct the history of UM. Scott Imig’s father was involved in the development of UM through a USAID program, but this is not documented in the UM Museum. Therefore, Scott wanted to bring his father together with colleagues from the UM History Department to rewrite UM’s history based on the experiences, information, and personal archives of his father, who was then a professor in America and working at UM,” explained Kodir.
The academics who also attended the meeting welcomed this initiative.
Among them were the Rector of Malang State University (Prof. Hariyono), Professor of History at UM (Prof. Joko Sayono), Secretary of the Department of History (Arif Subekti, M.A.), and several lecturers from the Department of History (Moch. Nizam Alfahmi, M.Pd; Ronal Ridhoi, M.A.; and Donny Maulana, M.Pd).
In his presentation, Hariyono welcomed the proposed collaboration.
The Professor of History at UM hoped it would open up opportunities for further collaboration between the two institutions.
The discussion lasted approximately one hour with the conclusion about sharing optimism among academics from UM and The University of Newcastle regarding future collaboration.
