Vesak 2570 B.E./2026: Thousands Gather at Borobudur for Grand National Tri Suci Celebration

en.malanginspirasi.com  – Buddhists from across Indonesia and abroad are converging at the majestic Borobudur and Mendut Temple today, Sunday, May 31, 2026, to celebrate the peak of Vesak or Hari Tri Suci Waisak 2570 B.E./2026.

The national commemoration honors three sacred milestones in the life of Buddha Gotama: his birth, enlightenment (Bodhi), and Parinibbana (final passing into Nirvana).

This year’s grand event is organized by WALUBI (Perwalian Umat Buddha Indonesia) in collaboration with the National Waisak Celebration Committee.Sacred Procession from Mendut to Borobudur.

The day began with solemn ceremonies at Candi Mendut, including the lighting of the Pelita Perdamaian (Peace Lantern) and a visit to the Tree of Hope.

After the event, then  the colorful Waisak Kirab Procession, a sacred parade carrying holy water and fire from Mendut to Borobudur, accompanied by chants, traditional music, and thousands of devotees in white attire.

The procession symbolizes the journey of spiritual awakening and unity among the Buddhist community.

Peak Moment at 15:44:44 WIB

The most sacred part of the celebration occurs precisely at 15:44:44 WIB, during the Puja Bakti.

At this exact auspicious moment, devotees will gather in mass prayer and meditation at Borobudur Temple to simultaneously commemorate Buddha’s Birth, Enlightenment, and Parinibbana.

Meanwhile, the evening program will continue with the spiritual atmosphere will continue into the night at Taman Lumbini.

Then, there will be Dharmasanti Waisak, an evening of spiritual discourse, reflection, and teachings at Borobudur on 19:30 – 22:00 WIB.

The breathtaking Peace Lantern Release Procession (Penerbangan Lentera Perdamaian) at Taman Lumbini and Lapangan Marga Utama will take place at 22:30 WIB onwards.

There will be a releasing thousands of sky lanterns lighting up the night sky around the ancient temple as a powerful symbol of hope, peace, and brotherhood.

As the world’s largest Buddhist monument and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Borobudur once again becomes the spiritual heart of Indonesia’s Vesak celebration.

The event radiates the core Buddhist values of metta (loving-kindness), karuna (compassion), and panna (wisdom).

Chairman of the National Vesak Committee expressed hope that this year’s celebration would inspire participants to spread messages of harmony and inner peace amid global challenges.
