Malanginspirasi.com – Twenty students from Brawijaya University (UB) have embarked on the Short Term International Academic Program (SIAP) Taiwan 2025: Mandarin Summer Camp at Da Yeh University, Taiwan. The program, running from July 7 to July 19, 2025, focuses on Mandarin language learning and an introduction to traditional Chinese culture. This initiative underscores UB’s commitment to internationalization and enhancing students’ global competencies.
The UB students arrived in Taiwan on Sunday, July 6, 2025, and were warmly welcomed by representatives from Da Yeh University. They were promptly escorted to their dormitories, where they settled in before the program’s commencement. Dr. Liu, Director of the Office of International Affairs (OIA) at Da Yeh University, expressed his delight in hosting the UB students. He emphasized his hope that the participants would find their time in Taiwan both enriching and enjoyable.
However, the first day of scheduled activities on July 7 faced an unexpected challenge. Adverse weather conditions, including a severe storm in the Changhua region, necessitated the postponement of Mandarin classes to ensure the safety of all participants. Despite this setback, the students remained enthusiastic and eagerly anticipated the days ahead.
The academic activities officially began on the second day, July 8. The students attended “Mandarin Class,” which combined theoretical lessons with practical exercises such as conversational practice and interactive games. Additionally, they immersed themselves in traditional Chinese arts through cultural classes, including calligraphy and handicrafts.
Nayyara, a participant from UB’s Faculty of Engineering, shared her positive experience:
“The laoshi (老师) in the Mandarin Summer Camp are delighted. Even though we are beginners, we can follow the lessons easily and enjoyably,” she said.

Beyond the classroom, the program also featured outdoor activities, including cultural trips to historical and tourist destinations in Taiwan. These excursions provided students with a deeper understanding of Taiwan’s rich heritage and contemporary culture.
The participation of UB students in SIAP Taiwan 2025 reflects the university’s broader goals of fostering academic collaboration and global engagement.
Prof. Dr. Ir. Imam Santoso, MP., Vice Rector for Academic Affairs at UB, highlighted the program’s dual benefits: enriching students’ academic perspectives and initiating international academic collaboration between Brawijaya University and Da Yeh University.
