Tinik Wijayanti Raises Issues of Emancipation and Domestic Violence on Kartini Day

Malanginspirasi.com — In commemoration of Kartini Day, Tinik Wijayanti, a member of Commission C of the Kota Malang Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), shared her views on the meaning of women’s struggle in the present day during an interview at the DPRD office in Malang on Monday, April 21, 2025.

According to Tinik, Kartini Day is an important moment to revisit the spirit of Raden Ajeng Kartini’s struggle in advocating for women’s emancipation.

“In the past, during the difficult times of colonialism, Raden Ajeng Kartini fought vigorously for women’s education and emancipation. Today, the challenges may be different in this modern era. However, every April 21 serves as a turning point for us to continue fighting in the realm of women’s rights, to keep defending women’s emancipation,” she stated.

She also expressed her admiration for Meutya Hafid, the Minister of Digital Communication, as a female figure who inspires her.

“From her university days, she was active in voicing various injustices through campus organizations. After graduating, she continued her struggle through journalism. During her career as a journalist, she was once held captive in Iraq in 2005 during the conflict there. She did not stop there, choosing to contribute further to the nation through the Golkar Party. Until now, she remains one of Golkar’s leading female cadres,” Tinik explained.

Tinik revealed that her interest in politics was influenced by her family background.

Witnessing her family’s direct involvement in community activities convinced her that politics can be a vehicle for tangible contributions to society.

“Turns out we can contribute more to society if we take the political path,” she said.

Concerning KDRT and Sexual Harassment

During the occasion, Tinik Wijayanti also addressed issues of domestic violence (KDRT) and sexual harassment, which she considers still significant concerns today. This intelligent woman highlighted that many victims are reluctant to report or seek assistance due to shame or other psychological reasons.

“Generally, I do not discriminate between men or women. As long as they bring up their problems, I will listen and do my best to follow up their aspirations with the relevant parties and seek solutions. That is my duty as a people’s representative,” she emphasized.

As a member of Commission C of DPRD Kota Malang, Tinik affirmed that her struggle is not limited to women’s issues alone but encompasses all aspects of community life, including development and public welfare.

For her, Kartini’s spirit is not merely a celebration but a call to action to keep moving forward and bring meaning to others.
