en.malanginspirasi.com – A member of the East Java Provincial Legislative Council (DPRD) from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) faction, Dr. Sri Untari Bisowarno, M.A., attended the peak commemoration of National Elderly Day (HLN) at the East Java Provincial level.
Held at the Janti Social Rehabilitation and Visual Impairment Unit (UPT) for the Socially Disabled (RSBN) in Malang, this event served as an important opportunity to affirm commitment to realizing healthy, independent, and empowered elderly people.
Various representatives from elderly organizations were present, from the Indonesian Elderly Association (PWRI) to the Wulan (Senior Citizens Association).
This year’s HLN commemoration was especially special because it included an exhibition of elderly care services, including fitness massages and free haircuts.
On this occasion, Sri Untari, along with the Governor of East Java, Khofifah Indar Parawansa, symbolically handed over various stimulus aid to the elderly.
The assistance provided matches to the physical condition of the beneficiaries.
“In principle, we have a strong desire to ensure that the elderly in East Java remain healthy in their old age. Therefore, regular health check-ups and care services like those showcased today are essential,” said Sri Untari on the sidelines of the event.
Budget Support and Economic Independence
She emphasized that the East Java Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD) is fully committed to continuing to encourage the East Java Provincial Social Service to allocate funds that support the welfare of the elderly.
The strategy for caring for the elderly in East Java is divided into two main clusters:.
The first one is Healthy/Productive Elderly as they are encouraged to become economically independent to maintain growth and empowerment.
Then, the second one is Sick/Physically Impaired Elderly as they are assisted with accessibility aids such as wheelchairs, canes, and crutches to support their daily activities.

As a concrete manifestation of the “Resilient Elderly, Growing Elderly” concept, the event presented 20 pushcarts funded by the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs of several banks.
These carts were specifically given to healthy and productive elderly people who can run businesses. In addition to the carts, these resilient elderly individuals also received Rp 500,000 in business capital.
“Our commitment in East Java aligns with our national commitment to creating Resilient Elderly and Growing Elderly. For those who are still healthy, we support their independence with carts and business capital,”she mentioned.
