The collision involved a national rail Renfe train and a train operated by private company Iryo, which was traveling along the Madrid-to-Seville line.

Infrastructure manager Adif confirmed the impact occurred on the main route, triggering a large-scale emergency response.

Spanish emergency services have deployed all available rescue units to the scene, including multiple fire crews, three helicopters, and two mobile intensive care units to treat the injured and free trapped passengers.

The death toll from a devastating high-speed rail collision near Urda, south of Madrid, has risen to a minimum of 30 people, with officials warning that the casualty count could increase further as search operations continue.

Concerns are mounting among Spanish media and local authorities that this accident could ultimately prove more severe than the Adamuz disaster last January, which claimed 46 lives.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez confirmed he remains in constant communication with transport officials as emergency rescue efforts continue.

He also expressed deep shock over the tragic accident, stating that he remains in continuous contact with the transport ministry as rescue operations and investigations into the cause of the crash unfold.
