Kemkomdigi Verifies 14 Apple Services Ensuring Safer Digital Space for Children

en.malanginspirasi.com – The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) has begun verifying 14 Apple digital services to ensure that all features used by Indonesians meet child protection standards as stipulated in Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 concerning the Governance of Electronic Systems for Child Protection (PP TUNAS).

“Fourteen Apple product services and features have been submitted to us,” said Meutya Hafid in a meeting with Apple Managing Director of Asia Pacific, Mike Orgill, at the Ministry of Communication and Digital’s office in Central Jakarta, Wednesday (July 1, 2026).

The 14 services being assessed encompass various products within the Apple ecosystem, including iMessage, Safari, Siri, Apple Music, Apple TV, and other digital services.

Meutya explained that the government is implementing a risk-based approach in implementing PP TUNAS.

Each digital service will be evaluated separately based on its characteristics, features, and potential risks to children, allowing for a more comprehensive verification process.

“We must be honest that for Indonesia and even the world, protecting children in the digital space is a new challenge. Therefore, we chose a risk-based approach because we want to truly protect Indonesian children. While at the same time maintaining space for technological innovation and investment as long as companies respect Indonesian law and prioritize the best interests of children,” she explained.

Indonesia has approximately 70 million children under the age of 16 and 85 million children under 18.

This large number of children is the basis for the government to strengthen digital platform governance through regulations that prioritize child protection.

Child Protection is The Top Priority of the Company

Meanwhile, Apple Asia Pacific Managing Director Mike Orgill stated that child protection is one of the company’s top priorities globally.

According to him, Apple has developed various digital safety features that will be strengthened through operating system updates later this year.

These features include expanding parental controls, improving the detection of harmful content such as nudity, violence, and gore, and strengthening the Child Account system, which allows parents to monitor their children’s digital activities on their devices.

“We believe child protection is a top priority. We greatly appreciate the steps taken by the Indonesian government under Minister Meutya’s leadership to strengthen child protection in the digital space. We are also ready to discuss any remaining questions during the evaluation process,” said Mike Orgill.

Kemkomdigi aims to complete the verification process of the documents submitted by Apple in approximately one month.

The evaluation results will form the basis for determining the risk level of each service and ensuring that all features operating in Indonesia comply with the principles of child protection in the digital space.
