en.malanginspirasi.com  An alleged online gambling ring uncovered within a military housing complex in Cijantung, East Jakarta, has drawn strong reactions from Indonesian lawmakers, who are calling for a complete and transparent investigation.

Sukamta, Deputy Chairman of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), urged defense authorities to hold all responsible parties accountable, emphasizing that the probe must extend beyond low-level operators to target masterminds and facilitators.

While commending the military’s swift response in initiating an inquiry, Sukamta stressed that the investigation must cover both civilian and military personnel if evidence of wrongdoing is found.

Wakil Ketua Komisi I DPR RI, Sukamta (Parlementaria)

The alleged online gambling case at the military housing in Cijantung must be thoroughly investigated. We appreciate the military’s initial steps. Anyone proven involved—civilian or military—must be held legally accountable,” Sukamta stated as quoted from Parlementaria.

The lawmaker underscored that investigators must expose all facets of the illegal operation, including who provided the facility, who was aware of the activities, and whether high-level protection was offered.

“The investigation must not stop at operational workers. It needs to trace who controlled it, provided the space, and whether anyone knew about or protected the operation,” he said.

Highlighting that military housing is a state-funded asset subject to strict regulations, Sukamta reiterated that while the presumption of innocence must be maintained, firm sanctions must follow if military personnel are found to have abused their authority.

“Military housing is a state asset that must be used accountably. We shouldn’t rush to conclusions before the probe finishes, but if service members are involved or abused their power, strict action must be taken,” the PKS politician said.

Sukamta further noted that the incident points to systemic gaps in internal oversight, questioning how an operation requiring dozens of computer setups could function undetected inside a military residential perimeter.

“This highlights a need to evaluate internal military oversight. How could an operation with dozens of computers run undetected in military housing? This must be explained and fixed,” he remarked.

Concluding his statement, Sukamta urged defense officials to maintain professional standards throughout the proceedings, noting that handling the matter openly is vital to preserving public confidence in the Indonesian National Armed Forces.

“We hope the military handles this case openly and professionally. The actions of a few individuals must not tarnish the reputation of an institution built with hard work,” Sukamta concluded.
