UB Launches AI-Powered App to Boost Political Literacy

Globalizing UB and Indopol Survey Collaborate on cakapolitik_ub.id for Inclusive Digital Democracy

Malanginspirasi.com – Brawijaya University (UB), in partnership with Indonesia Political Survey & Consulting (Indopol Survey), has demonstrated its commitment to inclusive and adaptive political education. In the digital era, the two entities have collaborated to launch an artificial intelligence (AI)-based application named cakapolitik_ub.id.

The app was officially introduced during the dissemination event titled “Dilema Perilaku Politik Masyarakat Jawa Timur di Pemilu 2024” at UB Auditorium on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.

Novi Setia Yunas, S.IP., M.IP, a lecturer in the Political Science Program at UB’s Faculty of Social and Political Sciences and secretary of Globalizing UB, shared key insights. He revealed that the application stems from research conducted in the previous year, focusing on societal political behavior.

“This is the second year of our Globalizing UB program. Last year, we only conducted surveys and dissemination. In this second year, 2025, based on our survey results and community input, we are launching the cakapolitik app,” he stated.

Novi further explained that the primary goal of developing the app is to serve as a platform for political education, thereby enhancing public literacy on politics.

“The aim is to provide society with a medium for political education, especially given that Gen Z now dominates 50% of the permanent voter list. Therefore, political approaches must align with their digital era,” he elaborated.

The cakapolitik_ub.id app features two standout functionalities: political education and a bridge connecting the public with legislative members and regional leaders.

“Through this feature, citizens can directly submit complaints or aspirations—such as reports of damaged roads or flooding—to their representatives. The AI will then assist in forwarding these reports to the relevant authorities,” he added.

Digital Democracy

Meanwhile, Ratno Sulistiyanto, Executive Director of Indopol, praised the app’s launch. He views cakapolitik as a solution to the high levels of political alienation in society.

“This application can serve as a bridge between the public and their leaders, enabling faster, more responsive political communication and strengthening digital democracy,” he said.

Looking ahead, UB plans to continue developing the app until 2027 by incorporating AI-based visual features. These will allow easier interaction between the public and representatives.

“It will be phased. In the future, there will be AI-based communication using visuals like videos or photos to simplify how people convey their aspirations. We hope cakapolitik becomes integral to enhancing the quality of democracy in Indonesia,” Ratno concluded.
