Sri Untari Supports Javanese Script for Local Content in High Schools to Save National Identity

en.malanginspirasi.com – The Chairperson of Commission E of the East Java ​The East Java Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD), Dr. Sri Untari Bisowarno, M.AP, fully supports the optimization of the introduction and learning of the Javanese script (Hanacaraka) as mandatory local content (mulok) for high school and vocational high school students throughout East Java.

She conveyed the stateent after receiving an audience with the management of the Javanese Script Association from Surabaya in her office, following the East Java DPRD Plenary Meeting.

Mas Taufik Monyong, also known as the former Chair of the East Java Arts Council (DKJT), led the group.

​During the warm meeting, Sri Untari expressed her appreciation for the in-depth research conducted by Mas Taufik in various developed countries.

​”Countries like Japan, Korea, China, India, and even Russia have been able to grow into very resilient nations because they firmly maintain their identity. They refuse to use scripts that are not the original ones of their ancestors,” said Sri Untari, echoing the essence of the research results.

Based on this awareness, she believes that the Javanese people should re-acquaint themselves with the original scripts inherited from their ancestors.

The Javanese script is not simply a series of symbols, but rather a representation of cultural identity, character, and a high civilization that has existed for hundreds of years in the Indonesian archipelago.

​Innovative Learning Methods Through Playing Cards

The Javanese Script Association (Paguyuban Aksara Jawa) is introducing an innovative and fun learning method for the younger generation to learn the Javanese script easier.

They have created a learning medium in the form of playing cards that resembles the concept of tarot cards or playing cards.

The cards contain Hanacaraka letters and supporting symbols.

​”This playful method is excellent because it makes the learning process much easier, faster, and more interactive for our children,” praised the Malang-based politician.

A strong legal framework supports the commitment of Commission E’s DPRD to safeguarding the preservation of the Javanese language and script.

​Representatives from the East Java Education Office and the Culture and Tourism Office (Disbudpar) also attending the meeting in which DPRD has issued a special regulation.

​”The East Java Education Office stated that this step is actually very much aligned with our regulation, namely Gubernatorial Regulation (Pergub) Number 36 of 2024,” explained Sri Untari in the hearing.

The regulation specifically regulates the local content curriculum for the Javanese language and script, which will be taught in a structured manner in schools.

​At the end of her explanation, the legislator emphasized that the ability to write and read regional scripts is an indicator of a nation’s progress.

​”The art of writing is authentic proof that a nation possesses a very high culture. By rediscovering our script, we ensure that our identity, character, and culture are not easily shifted or lost to the passage of time,” concluded Sri Untari.
