Stable Prices in the First Week of Ramadan in Pasar Induk Gadang, Bring Relief to Consumers

Malanginspirasi.com – As the first week of Ramadan commences, the prices of essential goods, particularly vegetables at the Pasar Induk Gadang, remain relatively stable. However, traders anticipate that prices may fluctuate in the upcoming week, contingent upon weather conditions and agricultural output.

According to Saipul, a trader and farmer, the prices of vegetables in the market remain manageable.

Specific commodities are being sold at the following rates: cucumbers at Rp 2,500 per kilogram, cabbage at Rp 3,000 per kilogram, and tomatoes at Rp 3,500 per kilogram. Carrots are priced at Rp 12,000 per kilogram, long beans at Rp 3,500 per kilogram, and eggplant and Chinese cabbage are both available for Rp 3,000 and Rp 3,500 per kilogram, respectively.

Chili prices also vary considerably, with small chilies selling for Rp 40,000 per kilogram, large chilies for Rp 32,000 per kilogram, and curly chilies for Rp 36,000 per kilogram.

Red onions are priced around Rp 34,000 per kilogram, while garlic is selling for Rp 35,500 per kilogram.

The current stability of prices has been positively received by consumers. One such shopper, Siti, expressed her gratitude while shopping at the market.

“Alhamdulillah, at the start of Ramadan, I can buy vegetables freely because the prices remain stable. I hope it stays this way until Eid,” she said with a smile on Thursday, March 6, 2025.

Despite the current pricing stability, Saipul emphasized that conditions could change, especially in the event of extreme weather impacting farmers’ harvests.

“If the weather is favorable, prices may remain stable, but if it rains continuously, prices could increase,” he said.

Both vendors and consumers at Pasar Induk Gadang hope that prices will remain affordable, particularly during Ramadan, which typically sees a surge in demand for essential goods.

Therefore, both traders and consumers are hopeful for a steady supply to prevent any spikes in prices as they approach the Eid al-Fitr celebrations.
