en.malanginspirasi.com – The Indonesian Agricultural Student Senate Association (ISMPI) provided a strategic discussion platform through the 2026 ISMPI Agricultural Symposium, held on Wednesday (May 20, 2026) in the Auditorium of the Faculty of Agricultural Bioindustry and Forestry, Brawijaya University (UB).
Themed “Student Synergy in Strengthening the Agrarian Sector as a Pillar of Indonesian Food Security,” this event is part of the agricultural students’ efforts to build critical awareness of agrarian issues and national food security.
The Ministry of External Diplomacy organized the symposium was organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Strategic Action and Studies, the Student Executive Board of the Faculty of Agricultural Bioindustry and Forestry, Brawijaya University, and the Indonesian Agricultural Student Senate Association (ISMPI).
Students got encouragement to understand the various challenges in Indonesia’s agricultural sector, ranging from export-import policies and land conversion to spatial planning issues and agrarian conflicts, which directly impact farmer welfare and national food security.
At the symposium, a speaker from the Ministry of Strategic Action and Studies of the Student Executive Board (BEM) of the Faculty of Agriculture and the University of Brawijaya (FBiPK) delivered a presentation titled “Agricultural Policy and Indonesian Food Security.”
In his presentation, he explained that national agricultural policy needs to be designed sustainably, balancing economic development, agricultural land protection, and farmer welfare.

The symposium discussed the impact of export and import policies on Indonesia’s agricultural sector, including the challenges faced by local farmers due to dependence on imported commodities and global market fluctuations.
Furthermore, the issue of agricultural land conversion to plantations, residential areas, infrastructure development, and food estate projects also received significant attention.
This phenomenon have the potential to reduce the area of productive agricultural land and threaten the sustainability of national food production if not balanced with appropriate regulations.
“Food security is not just about production, but also about how the state can protect agricultural land, safeguard the welfare of farmers, and implement policies that support the sustainability of the agricultural sector,” said a speaker from the Ministry of Action and Strategic Studies of the Student Executive Board (BEM) of the Faculty of Biology and Pharmacy (FBiPK) of the University of Brawijaya (UB).
It also discussed various issues related to spatial planning, licensing, and land conflicts, which often hinder the development of Indonesia’s agricultural sector. Students were encouraged to develop a critical perspective on agrarian policies and actively monitor public policies that impact farming communities.
As a recommendation, the symposium emphasized the importance of sustainable agricultural land protection, equitable agrarian reform, and strengthening national food security through policies based on sustainability and the interests of local farmers.
“Agricultural students have a crucial role as intellectual and social agents in overseeing the direction of Indonesian agricultural policy. Synergy among students is expected to generate ideas and concrete actions to create a strong and equitable national food system,” the speaker continued.
The 2026 ISMPI Agricultural Symposium is expected to create a space for collaboration and the exchange of ideas among agricultural students from various regions to jointly strengthen the agricultural sector as the foundation for Indonesia’s future food security.
