Malanginspirasi.com – The Faculty of Agricultural Technology (FTP) of Brawijaya University (UB), Malang, introduced the first vertical garden in the campus.
The inauguration took place along with the “Color Fun Walk & Inauguration of Ecosustainability Day” event.
Held at the FTP UB courtyard on Sunday morning (January 25, 2026), the event also marked the green campus movement.
The Dean of FTP UB, Prof. Yusuf Hendrawan, STP. M.App.Life.Sc. Ph.D., stated that this vertical garden is the first of its kind on campus.
“This event is part of FTP UB’s 28th Anniversary celebrations,” he told the media. “Last night, there was an alumni gathering.”
Prof. Yusuf stated that the vertical garden demonstrates FTP UB’s commitment to supporting the concept of green campus.

“So, the vertical garden on the UB campus is an effort to improve the quality of campus green spaces and a medium for environmental education,” he added.
He further explained that the vertical garden is not the only manifestation of a green campus at FTP UB.
“So, there will also be solar panels in addition to the vertical gardens. This is a form of integrated renewable energy utilization,” he explained. “All of them are the forms of support for the clean energy transition and a reduction in the carbon footprint.”
Eco Green Campus Implementation at FTP UB
Brawijaya University recently established the UB Green Campus Technical Implementation Unit (UPT), in which the socialization was on January 19th.
The establishment of the UPT UB Green Campus is to drive sustainability principles that all faculties at UB are about to implement.
“As the head of the UPT UB Green Campus is also from FTP, we have the responsibility to be the first to establish an ecogreen campus within UB,” continued Prof. Yusuf.
He said that the Fun Walk event has implemented green campus effort at this Fun Walk event.
“Our commitment is to reduce the use of plastic and encourage the use of environmentally friendly materials,” he continued. “This applies to all academic and institutional activities.”
He cited an example in which participants in the fun walk are required to bring tumblers because bottled water is not provided.
“Furthermore, we are also building sustainability by providing special smoking facilities for students and providing special waste bins for bottles,” he explained.
After the vertical garden development, the long term plan of FTP UB is designing green campus concept for the entire building.
“The vertical garden is only one side of the building. We have budgeted for the entire building to be designed according to the green campus concept,” he concluded.
FTP UB as a Pioneer of the Green Campus Program
Meanwhile, the Head of the UB Green Campus Unit, Prof. Sri Suhartini, STP., M.Env.Mgt., Ph.D., also explained the green campus program.
