en.malanginspirasi.com –  Four faculty members from the Bachelor’s Degree Program in Mathematics at the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science, Technology, and Mathematics (FSTeM), Universitas Brawijaya (UB), have explored prospective research collaborations, joint funding opportunities, and academic exchanges with the Center for Resilient Data Analytics and Computational Systems (CeRDaS) at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP).

This strategic engagement took place during a Dosen Berkarya (Visiting Scholar) program visit in Seri Iskandar, Perak, Malaysia, on Tuesday, October 27, 2026.

The Head of the Bachelor’s Degree Program in Mathematics, Ummu Habibah, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D led the UB delegation, along with  delegation members including Prof. Dr. Marjono, M.Phil.; Kwardiniya Andawaningtyas, S.Si., M.Si.; and Avin Maulana, S.Mat., M.Kom.

Centered around the theme “Research, Innovation & Academic Collaboration,” the meeting concentrated on prospective partnerships in artificial intelligence, data science, and intelligent computing systems.

This visit builds upon prior academic collaboration established between Ummu Habibah and Mohana Sundaram Muthuvalu, Ph.D., P.Tech., FIMA, through a preceding Adjunct Professor initiative.

Dr. Mohana attended the meeting, serving as a key facilitator connecting the UB delegation with their counterparts at UTP.

During the presentation session, the Head of CeRDaS UTP, Dr. Shuhaida binti Mohamed Shuhidan, introduced the center’s profile and core research focuses, encompassing artificial intelligence, machine learning, data analytics, optimization, computing systems, and industry-driven innovations.

Subsequently, the UB delegation presented the active research groups within their department.

These reciprocal presentations enabled both institutions to map complementary expertise and identify potential joint research avenues.

The discussions further elaborated on a co-create, co-develop, and co-deliver framework as a strategic collaboration model, emphasizing mutual involvement from initial research conceptualization and solution development to shared output generation.

To support these collaborative research prospects, both parties discussed potential financing mechanisms through matching grant or matching fund schemes.

Furthermore, upcoming academic exchange options were explored, including Universitas Brawijaya Student Mobility and Academic Relay System (UB STARS) and UTP’s Research Attachment Programme (RAP).

This collaborative initiative aligns closely with Universitas Brawijaya’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) priorities, particularly SDG 17 concerning partnerships for the goals.

Transnational collaborations with UTP, including co-funding schemes and the co-create, co-develop, and co-deliver framework, significantly strengthen international research networks.

Additionally, research initiatives focusing on artificial intelligence, data science, and intelligent computing linked to industry needs directly support SDG 8 regarding decent work and economic growth through enhanced human resource capacity and data-driven innovation.

Ultimately, this meeting serves as a foundational step to map prospective cooperation based on each institution’s respective expertise, while opening new pathways for advanced mathematical research integrated with data analytics and contemporary industry demands.
