en.malanginspirasi.com – As of Monday, September 14th, 2026, Mount Semeru remains at Level III, or “Alert” (Siaga) status.
The Lumajang Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) is intensifying 24-hour monitoring of Mount Semeru via the Curah Kobokan and Oro-Oro Ombo posts to expedite information dissemination should there be any changes in volcanic activity.
According to the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), an eruption occurred again at 06:28 WIB, with an ash column observed rising approximately 1,000 meters above the summit.
The Head of Lumajang Regency BPBD, Isnugroho, stated that developments regarding Mount Semeru’s activity are being continuously monitored by personnel in the field.
“BPBD, through the teams at the Curah Kobokan and Oro-Oro Ombo posts, maintains a 24-hour standby status on a rotational basis. Should a hot cloud avalanche (APG) occur at any time, we can at least provide initial visual information and carry out evacuations for residents in the surrounding area,” said Isnugroho in Lumajang Regency, East Java Province, on Monday (September 14, 2026).

APG—or hot cloud avalanches—represent one of the potential hazards that personnel anticipate while monitoring Semeru’s activity.
According to Isnugroho, the rotational personnel standby system ensures continuous observation of conditions in the area, allowing for the immediate relay of initial information to the public and relevant agencies if activity levels change.
In addition to visual observations, personnel also track seismic developments at Mount Semeru, including harmonic tremors recorded during volcanic activity monitoring.
Isnugroho noted that these seismic developments are a key factor being closely monitored alongside other data regarding the volcano’s activity. “We are continuing to monitor this seismic activity. Most importantly, the public should remain calm and vigilant, and follow official information from the authorities,” he said.
The Lumajang Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) ensures that monitoring is conducted continuously to facilitate early information dissemination and response readiness should conditions at Mount Semeru change.
The public is urged to remain vigilant and to follow official information and directives from the government, the BPBD, and agencies authorized to monitor volcanic activity.
