Mount Semeru Climbing Route Reopens with Restriction Access

en.malanginspirasi.com – Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Center (BBTNBTS) reopens the Mount Semeru climbing route starting Friday (April 24, 2026).

The route was  closed following the eruption in November 2025.

Yet, the reopening will take place in stages by prioritizing safety and environmental sustainability.

The implementation of this policy is after a thorough evaluation and cross-sector coordination.

The Head of BBTNBTS, Rudijanta Tjahja Nugraha, stated that the reopening of the climbing route come up with several restrictions.

“Mount Semeru climbing will reopen starting April 24, 2026,” he said in a written statement on Saturday (April 25, 2026).

As part of risk mitigation, climbers are currently only permitted to reach the Ranu Kumbolo area.

This restriction is in place to ensure visitor safety and protect the conservation area’s ecosystem.

The opening of this hiking trail is not only good news for climbers but also has a positive impact on the economic recovery of the surrounding community.

It can stimulate the transportation sector, guide services, and micro, small, and medium enterprises.

However, the management emphasizes the importance of climbers’ discipline in implementing safety principles and protecting the environment.

“It is advisable for climbers  to prepare themselves thoroughly before the trip, including ensuring they are in good physical condition, completing official registration, and monitoring weather information and the mountain’s status,” said Rudijanta.

Safety Preparations for Climbers Are Mandatory

Furthermore, the use of standard equipment such as warm jackets, hiking boots, tents, and adequate logistics is mandatory.

During the climb, the regulation urge visitors to stay on the official trail, not to travel alone, and not to push themselves whenver they don’t have proper physical condition.

“The management also emphasizes the importance of preserving the environment by not damaging vegetation and bringing back any waste generated during the climb,” he said.

In an emergency, it is a mandatory for climbers  to immediately coordinate with officers at the nearest post for appropriate treatment.

BBTNBTS also provides convenience for climbers who have already booked tickets before the closure through a rescheduling policy.

Official online booking is only applicable at bromotenggersemeru.id.
