Polresta Malang Kota Apprehend Robbery Suspects Who Threatened Students with Sharp Weapons; One Fugitive Hunted

en.malanginspirasi.com – The Malang City Police (Polresta Malang Kota) Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) arrested DS (26) and MM (20) as suspects for a violent robbery syndicate targeting students in Malang City.

Both are residents of Kotalama Village, Kedungkandang District and they were allegedly robbing victims of their cell phones and motorcycles under the threat of sharp weapons.

While two suspects are currently behind bars, police are still hunting for a third perpetrator, identified as H (alias Habibi), who has been placed on the Wanted Persons List (DPO).

Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit (Kasatreskrim), AKP Rahmad Aji Prabowo, stated that the breakthrough came after police received two separate reports in early June 2026.

Investigators quickly pieced the case together using witness testimonies, crime scene reconstructions, and CCTV footage.

“From the results of the investigation, we identified the perpetrators, leading to the arrest of these two suspects. We are actively pursuing the remaining member of the gang,” AKP Aji said.

A Trail of Terror

According to police logs, the gang’s crime spree began on May 16, 2026, on Jalan M. Wiyono, Blimbing District.

The victim was hanging out with friends when the suspects approached, intimidated them, andĀ  drew a knife.

Terrified, the victim was forced to hand over an iPhone 12 Pro Max, along with its passcode.

Just over a week later, in the early hours of May 24, 2026, the gang struck again near the Malang City Square.

They cornered three students and forced them to ride to a secluded area near the Kuto Bedah Cemetery on Jalan Muharto, Jodipan Village.

There, the perpetratorsĀ  brandished a sickle and a machete, successfully robbing the students of two cell phones and a Honda Beat motorcycle.

“The perpetrators’ modus operandi was to scout for vulnerable victims late at night or in the early morning, corner them, and force them to hand over valuables by threatening them with sharp weapons,” AKP Aji explained.

The Arrests

The crackdown was a collaborative effort between the Malang City Police Operational Team and the Sector Police Units (Polsek) of Blimbing and Kedungkandang.

MM was the first to fall, arrested at an internet cafe in Kebalen Wetan on June 1, 2026.

Upon interrogation, MM confessed to both robberies, pointing detectives toward his accomplice. DS was arrested at his residence later that same day.

Police are currently tracking down the stolen items, which are believed to have already been sold on the black market.

Both DS and MM face severe penalties.

They have been charged underĀ  Article 479 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code (KUHP) for theft accompanied by threats of violence.

“The active role of the community is crucial in helping us maintain public safety. We will aggressively follow up on any leads to ensure Malang remains a safe environment for everyone,” AKP Aji concluded.
