en.malanginspirasi.com – The Malang City Police (Polresta Malang Kota) have successfully apprehended a suspect in a robbery case that clamed the life of a residential security guard in the Cemorokandang area, Kedungkandang District.
The suspect is identified as T (42), a recidivist from Singosari District, Malang Regency.
The police arrested him without resistance at his residence on Thursday evening, May 14, 2026.
Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit (Kasatreskrim), AKP Rahmad Aji Prabowo made the statement during a press conference at Polresta Malang Kota Headquarters (Mapolresta) on Friday evening (May 15, 2026).
Also attending the press conference were Kedungkandang Police Chief (Kapolsek) M. Roichan and Public Relations Head First Inspector Lukman Sobhikin, revealed the details of the case.
AKP Aji mentioned that the incident occurred on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at approximately 6:15 PM WIB, at the Cemara Diamond Townhouse Housing Complex in Cemorokandang Village.
The victim, MS (51), a bricklayer who also served as a nighttime security guard for the complex.
MS confronted the suspect while he was allegedly stealing building materials from the marketing office.
“Initially, witness statements led us to believe there were two perpetrators. However, after thoroughly examining CCTV footage, we confirmed the suspect acted alone,” explained AKP Aji.
Residents grew suspicious when they saw the suspect carrying galvalum frames at night and alerted the victim.
When the victim attempted to stop and question the suspect near the Cemorokandang flyover, an argument broke out and quickly escalated into a physical altercation.During the confrontation, the suspect stabbed the victim once with a dagger.
The victim was immediately rushed to Dr. Saiful Anwar Regional Hospital (RSSA) Malang for treatment. Tragically, he passed away on Sunday morning, May 10, 2026, at around 7:30 AM WIB.
The suspect admitted that his motive was financial gain. He claimed he habitually carried a dagger for “stripping cables.”
Police are now investigating his possible involvement in other theft cases.

“The dagger was allegedly discarded into the river in the Kalisari area. We are currently searching for it, along with the hoodie worn by the suspect during the incident,” said AKP Aji.
Items recovered as evidence include a Suzuki Spin motorcycle, a sling bag, sandals, the suspect’s clothing, and the stolen building materials, which he had not sold them yet.
AKP Aji further revealed that T is a repeat offender who confessed to committing at least three thefts, often targeting quiet residential areas.In this case, police have registered two reports: aggravated theft and serious assault resulting in death.
The suspect faces charges under Article 468 and Article 477 paragraph (1) of Law Number 1 of 2023, with a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison.
